Ardbeg Grooves is a 2018 Committee Release single malt from Islay, bottled at 51.6% ABV. It was matured in heavily charred red wine casks with classic ex-bourbon casks alongside.
The wine casks give the whisky a deep amber colour with a coppery glow, and a chewy texture on the palate.
The nose combines smoked paprika, charred citrus peel and campfire embers with tarred driftwood, blackcurrant jam and cherry compote. On the palate come smoked brisket, burnt sugar, toffee, red berries and black pepper. The finish is long and warming, with soot, smoked treacle, dark chocolate and a trace of red wine tannin.
