Ardbeg Kelpie is an Islay single malt bottled at 46% as the Ardbeg Day 2017 release. It is a limited edition, matured in a marriage of ex-bourbon barrels and virgin Black Sea oak casks from the Adyghe Republic in Russia.
The Black Sea oak is what sets it apart, adding a sharp herbal edge to a dark, maritime style of Ardbeg.
The nose combines oily peat, dark chocolate, smoked fish, seaweed and black pepper. On the palate come treacle toffee, Turkish coffee, smoky bacon and dark chocolate, with peach, hickory and clove oil. The finish is very long, with clove, tar, toffee and a smoky sweetness.
