Ardbeg Rare Cask 'The Ultimate' is a 16 year old Islay single malt, bottled in 2020 at 50.3% ABV. It was matured in a Manzanilla sherry butt, and 671 bottles were filled.
The nose offers juicy pear, ripe apricot and a little raspberry, with anise, cardamom and toasted oak. On the palate are caramelised apple, rich plum and smoky vanilla, with peaty notes like cold sea air, dried sweet potato and medicinal herbs. The finish is long and warm, with honeyed spice, charred wood, charcoal, ginger and dark chocolate.
