A single refill barrel of heavily peated Ardnamurchan from 2015, bottled at 6 years old by Whisky Sponge as Edition 48A. It is one of three bottlings in a Triptych release drawn from two single casks, and it was bottled at 57.1% after a slight reduction, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is savoury, with burnt bacon, porridge, wet hay, raw peat, Marmite on toast and olive brine. The palate is medicinal and smoky, with lemon zest, brine, chimney smoke and a little chilli, and water brings out apples, pears and mandarin peel. The finish is quite long, with lasting peat smoke, a sharp medicinal edge and a citric twist.
