Auchentoshan – 16 Year Old 2007 Lady of the Glen (55.7%)

This is a 16 year old Auchentoshan from 2007, a single cask bottled by Lady of the Glen at its natural cask strength of 55.7%. Cask 4204 was a Ruby Port cask, and it gave 244 bottles. Triple distillation gives Auchentoshan a light character, and 17 months in the port cask added a deep rosy tone and layers of red berry sweetness. It is bottled without colouring or chill-filtering. The nose offers raspberry shortbread, heather honey, toasted almonds, fine wood and a touch of cinnamon. The palate has cinnamon, fresh pastries, dark fruit, chilli chocolate and roasted coffee beans. The finish is dry and fruity, with port and honey sweetness fading into gentle warmth.
