Balblair 18 Year Old is a Highland single malt, bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration in a 75cl bottle. It comes from the distillery at Edderton in Ross-shire, founded in 1790, which uses only unpeated barley.
The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon casks and finished in first-fill Spanish oak butts. Balblair fills its spirit into casks at about 68.5% ABV, higher than the usual industry figure of around 63.5%.
The nose has toffee, baked pear, new leather and dark fruit compote. The palate is juicy, with apricot, candied orange peel, vanilla custard, blackberry jam and raisin. The finish is long and warming, with baking spices, raisins and dark chocolate, fading dry and slightly tannic.
