A Highland single malt from Balblair, aged for 15 years and bottled at 46% ABV. It matured in ex-bourbon American oak casks and was then finished in first-fill Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at natural colour and without chill filtration.
The distillery stands near the Dornoch Firth and was founded in 1790.
The nose opens with raisins, dusty malt, red apple, grapefruit zest and almond, with cookie dough and marzipan beneath. The palate is oily, with baked dates, ginger and cinnamon cake, caramel, figs and hot chocolate, lifted by orange peel. The finish is long and warming, with light tobacco, orchard fruit, coffee and nutmeg.
