Balcones Brimstone Texas Scrub Oak Smoked (75cl, 53%)

Balcones Brimstone is a corn whisky from Balcones Distilling in Waco, Texas, made from 100% blue corn and bottled at 53% in a 75cl bottle. It is not a bourbon. The smoke comes from sun-baked Texas scrub oak, applied by a proprietary process to the distilled spirit itself rather than to the grain, which sets it apart from peated Scotch. It is neither chill-filtered nor coloured. The distillery describes masa, Texas campfire and powdered sugar over stone fruit, peppery spice and mint. On the palate there is candied oak smoke and orange marmalade, and the finish is long and dry as the smoke returns.
