This is a 10 year old Balmenach from Speyside, distilled in 2007 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as 48.96, under the name Petals in Porridge. It comes from a single refill bourbon barrel, with 198 bottles produced at 59.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
In the Society's code, the first number refers to the distillery and the second to the cask. Balmenach runs small stills quickly and condenses in worm tubs, which gives a rich, meaty new make.
