Balmenach 16 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, cask code 48.160, named Ode To The Worm Tub. It was distilled in 2006 and bottled at 55.8% ABV in a 70cl bottle, one of 274 bottles from a single cask. The whisky spent 13 years in a bourbon hogshead before moving to a first-fill American oak Oloroso sherry hogshead. Balmenach runs its vapour into worm tubs rather than shell and tube condensers. The nose is heavy and oily, with rapeseed oil, olive oil, hessian, liquorice, dark fruit beers and dried cranberry. The palate brings chopped dates, cinder toffee, aniseed sweets and heather honey cake, with some putty and wax.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
