Balvenie – 12 Year Old Home Malted (The 1931 Collection) (47.5%)

This is a limited edition Balvenie 12 Year Old made entirely from barley malted by hand on the distillery's own malting floor, which has been worked since 1931. The floor normally supplies only part of the barley used. Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie built the whisky around it. The spirit matured in American oak, then was finished in ex-sherry European oak butts from Jerez. It is bottled at 47.5% and comes in copper and verdigris packaging designed by artist Daniel Arsham. The nose is warm biscuit, honeyed toffee, ginger and oak. The palate has barley sugar sweetness turning to crystallised ginger, raisin and spice, and the finish is rich and velvety with lingering spiced warmth.
