Balvenie Double Wood 12 Years Old is a Speyside single malt, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It is matured in ex-bourbon casks of American oak and in hogsheads, then finished for around six months in ex-Oloroso sherry casks of Spanish oak.
The wood finishing method was developed by malt master David Stewart in 1982. Double Wood has been made since 1993 and marked its 25th anniversary in 2018.
It is typically described as sweet and fruity on the nose, with Oloroso sherry, honey and vanilla. The palate is soft, with nutty sweetness and cinnamon spice, and the finish is long and warming.
