Balvenie – 14 Year Old American Bourbon Barrel

A 14 year old Balvenie single malt matured in bourbon casks. It was first set aside to become a 12 year old single barrel, but on tasting it had developed a subtle smoky flavour. This came from being distilled straight after peat week, even though the barley was unpeated. The nose is velvety and sweet, with rich toffee and smouldering oak, then crisp citrus and a honeyed musk. On the palate, candied orange peel sits on woody, earthy notes from roasted malt and deep vanilla oak.
