Balvenie 21 Year Old PortWood Finish

A 21 year old Speyside single malt from The Balvenie, first released in 1996. Whiskies matured for over two decades in traditional American oak casks are moved into port pipes for a finishing stage, which the Malt Master samples regularly to judge how much character the port casks add. The Balvenie was founded in 1892 by William Grant in Dufftown. Former Malt Master David C. Stewart developed the technique of wood finishing there in 1982, and this expression is his creation. The nose is ripe raisin and fruit with a nutty dryness. The palate is creamy and silky, with fruit, honey and spice. The finish is long, gentle and nutty.
