Balvenie 27 Year Old A Rare Discovery From Distant Shores is a Speyside single malt in The Balvenie Stories collection, released as a limited edition (No. 8) at 48% in a 70cl bottle. It was inspired by the now-closed Caroni Distillery of Trinidad. The 27 years include a long seven-year secondary maturation in ex-Caroni rum casks, which add richness and a subtle grassy note to the distillery's honeyed character. The nose has muscovado sugar, manuka honey, green banana and gentle spice. The palate is velvety, with vanilla, treacle toffee, tropical fruit, aged leather and oak. The finish is long, with baked apple, tart peach, warming spice and dry oak.
