Balvenie A Collection of Curious Casks 14 Year Old Bourbon Barrel (70cl, 47.8%)

This is a 14 year old Speyside single malt from The Balvenie, part of The Balvenie Stories range, in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in American oak ex-bourbon barrels and bottled at 47.8% ABV, unchill-filtered and naturally coloured. Malt distilled straight after the distillery's annual peat week was meant to be unpeated, but it kept a subtle smoky note from residual peat. It was first destined for a 12 year old single barrel release, then stayed two more years in the barrels. Malt Master Kelsey McKechnie created it with Warehouse & Samples Coordinator George Paterson. The nose offers toffee, oak, citrus, stone fruits and honey. On the palate come candied orange peel, roasted malt, vanilla oak, stewed fruit and gentle smoke. The finish is long, with oak spice, vanilla, citrus and toasted pineapple.
