Barrell Seagrass Gray Label is a 19 year old rye whiskey, distilled in Canada and aged in the US and Canada before being bottled in Kentucky at cask strength.
It starts from two groups of 100% Canadian rye barrels, one with citrus and green apple character and the other with earthy spearmint. Portions were finished separately in apricot brandy casks and Martinique rhum barrels, and a blend of both groups was finished in Malmsey Madeira barrels. Each cask was pulled when its finish peaked, then married into the final blend.
The nose is grassy, with caraway, dill, cucumber peel and cigar tobacco. The palate is very oily, with nutty madeira notes and grapefruit peel, and the finish brings passionfruit, plum and flint.
