Basil Hayden Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (70cl, 40%)

Basil Hayden is a small batch Kentucky straight bourbon, bottled at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It uses a high-rye mash bill, which sets the sweetness of corn against the spicy character of rye. The recipe looks back to Basil Hayden Sr., who moved from Maryland to Kentucky in the late 18th century. According to legend, he made a batch from the ingredients he had to hand, without regard for the established rules of bourbon. The Noe family now honours that first recipe with this bottling. The nose brings spice, tea and a hint of peppermint. The palate is spicy and light-bodied with a gentle bite, leading to a dry, clean and brief finish.
