Basil Hayden Red Wine Cask Finish Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey (75cl, 40%)

This is a Kentucky straight bourbon from Basil Hayden, released as a special edition. It combines the brand's usual high-rye mash bill with bourbon that has been partly aged in Californian red wine casks. The bottling strength is 40% ABV. The wine casks add cherry and dried fruit, alongside the vanilla and charred oak expected of a bourbon. In the glass it is toasted brown with amber hues. The nose offers dried fruit, cherry and vanilla with a hint of toasted oak. The palate is sweet, with charred oak running through it, and the finish is warm with a crisp, delicate feel.
