Basil Hayden's is a Kentucky straight bourbon bottled at 40%. The brand traces its bourbon back to 1796, when master distiller Basil Hayden used a traditional corn base and mixed small grains into the mash. Rye sits at the core of this bourbon, giving plenty of spice, balanced by peppermint notes and a touch of fruit. The nose shows cracked black pepper, rye and oak spice, with hints of green pepper, lemon peel and creamy, tangy lemon curd. The palate moves from Rice Krispies and toasted breakfast cereal to popcorn with soft marshmallow and custard cream sweetness. The finish is toasted popcorn with plenty of butter.
