Belgrove – 4 Year Old Batch 1 (That Boutique-Y Whisky Company) (50cl, 49.8%)

This is a four-year-old rye whisky from the Belgrove Distillery in Tasmania, bottled by That Boutique-Y Whisky Company as Batch 1. It comes in a 50cl bottle at 49.8% ABV, and only 340 bottles were filled. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. Belgrove was founded by Peter Bignell, a Tasmanian farmer and distiller known for unconventional methods. He uses local rye, builds his stills from recycled copper and runs them on local cooking oil. The nose offers grilled peach and pineapple with smoky paprika, black pepper and waxy orange peel. On the palate, sweet grain notes meet toasted oak, with smoke and brown sugar underneath. A hint of fiery cinnamon lingers in a long, balanced finish.
