Ben Holladay Rickhouse Proof Soft Red Wheat is a wheated bourbon from Holladay Distillery in Weston, Missouri, bottled at barrel strength, 59.95% ABV, in a 75cl bottle. It is aged for a minimum of six years.
The mashbill is 73% corn, 15% soft red wheat and 12% malted barley. Each batch is blended at the proof the barrels give, so no water is added.
The nose shows caramel, banana nut bread, maple, peach and plum. The palate has stewed cherries, prune, molasses and honey cereal, with leather and hibiscus later. The finish is long and warming, with barrel char, dried fruit and tobacco, and a dandelion-like bitterness.
