This is a 26-year-old Ben Nevis, a Highland single malt bottled by That Boutique-y Whisky Company as Batch 17 in its End of the World series. The illustrated label shows a supervolcano.
It comes from a single refill sherry butt filled in November 1996, and the batch produced 553 bottles at 47.8% in a 50cl size. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The nose opens with chalk and flint, then sunflower oil, candle wax, mango and gooseberry cream. On the palate the waxy note stays, alongside passion fruit, papaya, cherries and sultanas. The finish is long and fruity, with dark fruit, oak spice and a little pepper.
