Benriach – 7 Year Old 1st Fill Banyuls Barrique (50cl, 46%)

This is a peated Speyside single malt from Benriach, aged for seven years in a first-fill Banyuls barrique and bottled at 46% in a 50cl bottle. Banyuls is a sweet red wine from France. The malt was dried in Benriach's malt kilns to give a light peat character, which is subtle and well integrated into the spirit. At cask strength the whisky was too fiery to read clearly, so the strength was brought down to 46% before bottling. It is the first release from this bottler to be adjusted in this way.
