This is Soldier, a 12-year-old Benrinnes single malt from Speyside, part of the Household group in the Macbeth Collection Act Two. It matured in refill sherry butts and was bottled at 53.5% in a 70cl bottle, with 2,400 bottles produced. It has natural colour and is not chill-filtered.
The Macbeth Collection was conceived by Lexi Burgess and bottled by Elixir Distillers in collaboration with Livingstone Rare. The sherry casks add redcurrant and dried herbs to the distillery's robust character.
The nose combines damp earth and grass with cream caramel and a hint of red berries. The palate is dense and powerful, with leather, redcurrant compote, toffee and a savoury note. The finish carries dark fruit, clove and toasted malt, ending dry.
