This is a 24 year old Benrinnes from Speyside, distilled in 1992 and bottled by Maltbarn as part of its Bourbon Cask series. It was matured in a bourbon cask, number 61, and bottled at 52.9% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is floral and soft, with chalk dust, wet soil, fennel, cooked grains and a touch of Benrinnes spice. The palate brings peppery fruit, heat and drying malt, with honey, barley malt and a little mint. It is sharp at first and opens up with water and time. The finish is spicy and dry, with oak, citrus, green apple tartness, mint, Meyer lemon and vanilla syrup.
