This is a Caol Ila single malt from Islay, distilled in 2011 and matured for 14 years before bottling at 52.4% ABV from cask 312219. It was finished in Moscatel, and 240 bottles were released in Berry Bros & Rudd's Auld & the Bold series.
The series looks at how classic whisky profiles change through unconventional maturation. Here sweet wine meets the peat smoke of Islay.
The nose offers cola sweets, red fruit jam, burnt caramel and hints of sea smoke. The palate is syrupy and sweet with jammy fruit, caramel crust and rolling peat smoke. The finish is lasting sea smoke with sweet spices and dark fruit.
