Uberach 5 Year Old is an Alsatian single malt from Bertrand Distillery, made from a local organic barley brew distilled in small Holstein stills.
It matures for a minimum of five years in new French oak and in Banyuls barrels, which held sweet wines for several years before they were filled with whisky. Jean Metzger selects those barrels from well-known cellars in Banyuls.
The nose recalls eaux-de-vie of greengage, pear and mirabelle, with cereal and floral notes of honeysuckle, lavender and holly. The palate suggests caramelised pear pie with cinnamon and vanilla, then honey, dried herbs and black tea, ending in pepper and ginger.
