Big Peat Christmas Edition 2014 is an Islay blended malt Scotch whisky from Douglas Laing & Co, made with malts from Ardbeg, Caol Ila, Bowmore and Port Ellen. It is a small batch bottled at natural cask strength, 55.7%, in a 70cl bottle, without chill filtration or added colouring.
The nose brings crumbly oatcakes with a little brie, ice cream, pencils and deep earthy notes, with medicinal touches appearing after a minute or two. On the palate there are bonfire embers, struck matches and sea breeze, with oatcakes returning alongside fruit chutney and blackberries. A little water lifts the salty notes.
The finish goes on for a long time, smoky and earthy.
