Big Peat Christmas Edition 2023 is the annual festive bottling from Douglas Laing, a blended malt from Islay in a 70cl bottle. It is bottled at a cask strength of 54.8% ABV, without chill filtration or added colouring.
The blend brings together Islay single malts from Ardbeg, Bowmore, Caol Ila and Port Ellen. Each year's Christmas edition is bottled at a different strength, and the label carries a new festive picture of the Big Peat character.
The nose offers bonfire smoke, sea salt and roasted malt, with vanilla fudge and citrus zest. The palate brings peat smoke, charred oak, dark toffee, brine and pepper. The finish is long and smoky, with cocoa, spice and a little seaweed.
