Fever River Rye is a straight rye whiskey from Blaum Bros. Distilling Co. in Galena, Illinois, bottled at 50% ABV (100 proof) in a 75cl bottle. It is aged for a minimum of four years, and the name comes from the river that runs by the town.
The mashbill is unusual: 92% rye, 5% smoked malt and 3% malted barley, which adds a campfire note to the rye spice.
The nose brings cereal grains, wood smoke, vanilla, baking spice and dill. The palate is sweet at first, with caramel and toasted grain, then rye spice, floral notes, smoke and dark chocolate. The finish is dry, with rye spice, smoke and dried herbs.
