This is the first single malt from the Borders Distillery in Hawick, released at eight years old. It matured first in first-fill bourbon barrels and then received a finish in Malmsey Madeira casks.
The bourbon wood brings vanilla, caramel and honey, while the Madeira adds sultanas and other dried fruit without hiding the fruity distillery character. It is bottled at 46% without chill-filtration or added colour, and 10,000 bottles were filled worldwide.
On the nose there are sultanas, light citrus, caramel, honey and vanilla. The palate is soft and smooth, with ripe berries, stem ginger and brown sugar, and the long, warming finish brings hazelnuts, dried fruit and gentle oak.
