Born on Islay is a 2014 single malt from Islay, selected by the independent bottler Wilson & Morgan for its Barrel Selection series. It is bottled at 43% in a 70cl bottle.
The malted barley is dried with peat smoke, the spirit is distilled in copper pot stills and the whisky is matured in oak casks.
The nose has gentle peat smoke with sea spray, iodine and brine, plus citrus zest, green apple and a little vanilla. The palate balances sweet malt, coastal minerality and moderate peat, with creamy vanilla, toasted barley, light honey and a medicinal edge. The finish is medium to long, with smoke, sea salt and warming spice, drying to a subtle oak note.
