Bruichladdich 18 Years Re/Define is the first 18-year-old single malt in the Islay distillery's range. The distillery closed in 1994 and reopened in 2001, and this whisky is made only from spirit produced after the reopening. It is bottled at 50% ABV, non-chill-filtered and with no added colouring. Matured on Islay, it spent most of its time in bourbon casks, with smaller numbers of Sauternes and port casks. It then rested and married in cask for nine months before bottling. The barley is a mix of Islay-grown, organic and mainland Scottish. The nose brings bright citrus, orchard fruit, vanilla pod and honeyed malt. The palate is creamy toffee, lemon cream and peach, with toasted almonds, coconut, dried apricot and subtle tropical fruit.
