Bruichladdich – Bere Barley 2012 10 Years Old (50%)

A 10 year old unpeated single malt from Bruichladdich on Islay, distilled in 2012 and bottled at 50%. It is made from heritage bere barley, harvested in 2011 at the Agronomy Institute of Orkney College. The whisky matured in oak casks for ten years before bottling. The nose opens with vegetal peel and oaky vanilla, alongside crisp apple and orchard honey. The palate has chewy malt, poached pear and apple, buttered teacakes and juicy stone fruit, followed by spiced vanilla and salted caramel. The finish is long, with fruit crumble, sugar, malted biscuits, distant coastal salt and zesty citrus peel.
