Octomore 16.1 is a cask strength Islay single malt from Bruichladdich, in a 70cl bottle at 59.3% ABV. It is made from mainland Concerto barley, very heavily peated to 101.4 PPM, and matured for five years in first fill bourbon barrels. It is non-chill-filtered and naturally coloured.
It is the reference point of the .1 series, with clear smoke and a sense of restraint.
The nose is coastal, with sea spray, orchard fruit, delicate peat, heather, chamomile and vanilla. On the palate, gentle peat wraps around salted caramel, stone fruit, warm earth and chocolate. The finish is long and smoky, with black pepper, toffee and a saline edge.
