Octomore 16.1 is a super heavily peated single malt from Bruichladdich, made from 100% Scottish mainland Concerto barley and malted to 101.4 ppm. It was distilled in 2019 from the 2018 harvest and matured for five years in first-fill bourbon barrels. It is bottled at 59.3% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
The peat smoke is intense, but it is handled with surprising delicacy.
Salted caramel, honeyed melon and apricot lead into chocolate and coconut, with a soft earthiness and mineral note, and smoke that lingers.
