Bruichladdich Organic Barley 16 Year Old is a non-peated Islay single malt made from organically grown Scottish barley from Mid Coul Farm in Dalcross. It matured for 16 years in bourbon casks only, a choice meant to let the creamy sweetness of the grain come through. It is bottled at 50% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and no chill-filtration.
The nose combines apricot, pear and apple with fresh pastry, sweet malt, crème brûlée, caramel and coconut. The palate is creamy and cereal-led, with honey, vanilla custard, toffee popcorn and citrus zest, balanced by restrained oak. The finish is warming, with almonds, sweet toffee and malty warmth.
