This is a heavily peated Islay single malt from Bruichladdich's Port Charlotte range.
The whisky matured in a combination of ex-sherry casks and American oak casks, then spent time in ex-Sauternes wine casks to finish. The sweetness of the dessert wine adds fruit to the smoky spirit.
The nose brings peach, candied grapes, fresh linen and roasted nuts, with dusty oak and earthy, mossy notes building slowly. On the palate come stem ginger, smoked almonds, orange peel, brown sugar, sultanas and red chilli flakes. The finish is vanilla pod with a hint of cigar box.
