A 42-year-old Bunnahabhain from Islay, distilled on 16 December 1973 and bottled on 11 January 2016 by Signatory Vintage in its Rare Reserve series. It matured in a refill sherry butt, cask 12145, and 427 bottles were filled. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour.
The nose balances exotic fruit, a fresh sea breeze and a faint scent of almonds, over sweet malt. The palate is textured, with caramelised brown sugar, salted caramel and a faint trace of ash, plus chocolate and ginger biscuits. Earthy oak leads into a long, deep finish.
