This is a heavily peated blended malt, bottled at 46% without colouring or chill-filtering. It is a blend of whiskies matured in first fill American oak hogsheads, virgin American oak and fresh European oak Oloroso sherry casks sent directly from a bodega in Jerez de la Frontera.
The name comes from Caisteal Chamuis, also known as Knock Castle or Castle Camus, a stronghold that helped the Macleod clan secure the Sleat peninsula on Skye. The castle was built in the 13th century on the site of the iron age fort of Dun Torabhaig. The whisky is meant as a tribute to island life and traditions in the Hebrides.
