Callington Mill – Quagmire Tasmanian Peated Single Malt (70cl, 46%)

Quagmire is a peated Tasmanian single malt from Callington Mill Distillery in Oatlands, made outside the distillery's Classic Range. It is bottled at 46% in a 70cl bottle, with natural colour and without chill-filtration. The whisky spent its whole maturation in a mix of sherry and port casks, rather than just a finish in them. The first-fill casks had only just been emptied, so their previous contents went straight into the maturing spirit. The nose has earthy peat and campfire smoke with vanilla and butterscotch. The palate brings caramel, toffee and honeycomb with dark fruit, peat and warming spice, in a rich, oily texture. The finish is long and gently drying, with peat, smoke, oak, chocolate-coated almonds and cigar notes.
