This Caol Ila was distilled in 2014 and bottled for Batch 4 of The WhiskyHeroes by Brave New Spirits, under the name Widow's Cove. After its main maturation it was finished in a first-fill Fino sherry hogshead, and 380 bottles were filled at a cask strength of 50.4%. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
The Fino finish adds dry sherry and nutty notes to the Islay smoke, alongside heather honey, herbs, sea salt and fine ash.
The nose is maritime smoke, sea air and ash with dry sherry, almonds, green apple and citrus. The palate is balanced and powerful, with peaty smoke, nuts and light fruit. The finish is medium to long, dry and smoky.
