Caol Ila – 12 Year Old Wilson & Morgan Barrel Selection Quercus Alba (Distilled 2008, Bottled 2020) (70cl, 46%)

This is a 12 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020 for Wilson & Morgan's Barrel Selection. It is in a 70cl bottle at 46% abv. The whisky is a vat of five barrels, combining bourbon barrels with virgin American oak. The bourbon casks keep the intensely smoky, sharp sea notes of classic Caol Ila, while the virgin oak adds a creamy, buttery sweetness, vanilla and soft tannins. It is described as salty, dry and mineral, but richer, fuller and bolder than usual.
