This is a 12 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, distilled in 2008 and bottled in 2020 as part of the Wilson & Morgan Barrel Selection. It is bottled at 48% ABV in a 70cl bottle.
After maturation it spent 10 months finishing in a virgin oak cask. That has softened the smoky, medicinal aromas and given a fuller, creamier mouthfeel, while the sooty, ashy Islay character remains, in a more muscular form.
Vanilla, toffee and butterscotch stand out, with liquorice and a hint of sweetened coffee. The oak is not overly tannic or heavy, and the peaty aromas grow in intensity in the glass.
