A 12 year old Caol Ila Distillers Edition, a golden single malt from Islay with a Moscatel cask character. It was introduced in June 2002. Fresh sea salt gives way to peaty smoke, with an initial sweetness behind it.
The nose opens smoky and sweet, with a light Moscatel note. The palate is soft and round, with pear, fruit salad and earthy notes, then cigars, herbs and gentle peat smoke.
The finish is long and complex, sweet and smoky, arriving in several layers.
