This is a 14 year old single cask Caol Ila from the Spirit of Scotland range, bottled under the James Gordon Whisky Co. name, a subsidiary of Gordon & MacPhail. The range returned in 2025 after first appearing in the late 1980s.
The whisky was matured in a first-fill sherry hogshead and bottled at cask strength, without chill filtration or added colouring.
The nose brings smoked meat, stewed apples, bitter orange peel and a gentle butterscotch sweetness. The palate is markedly smoky, with a delicate hint of anise. The finish is long, with a subtle roasted bitterness reminiscent of coffee beans.
