This Caol Ila was distilled on 30 September 1976 and matured for 46 years in a refill American hogshead. Gordon & MacPhail bottled it from cask 8102 on 14 November 2022 for its Private Collection, at a natural cask strength of 45.8% and without added colour. The cask gave 132 bottles.
It combines fine peat smoke with ripe fruit and a coastal minerality, along with an oily texture and spicy oak.
The nose offers peat smoke, ripe fruit, citrus peel, maritime notes and soft vanilla. The palate is oily, with sweet fruit, malt and caramel against spicy oak, the smoke staying present. The finish is long, with smoke and fruit, a fine saltiness and aged wood.
