This is a 17 year old Caol Ila, distilled in 2008 and selected by Gordon & MacPhail for its Connoisseurs Choice range, within the Lion's Choice selection. It is bottled at a cask strength of 55.8%.
The whisky matured in a single second-fill Bourbon barrel. The source of the spirit is a heavily peated Islay malt, with a phenol level given as 35 to 38 ppm, and the American oak is said to bring fruit and pastry notes without hiding its smoky, briny character.
