This is a 15 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2010 and matured in a first-fill sherry cask. It is a Gordon & Macphail Spirit of Scotland release, bottled at a cask strength of 53.7% in a 70cl bottle, from an outturn of 613 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and natural colour.
The character sits at the darker, meatier end of Caol Ila, with maritime smoke alongside rich fruit and savoury depth.
The nose offers sultanas, blackcurrants, cured meat, smoked embers and sea air. The palate brings red berries, dark chocolate, bonfire smoke, festive spice and blood orange zest, and the finish is glowing embers, drying oak and a salty, savoury fade.
